Never mind that an overdose of holiday parties is giving me trouble fitting into my favorite tuxedo pants — it’s a good thing the oversize outerwear was a trend all over the Fall 2012 runways, along with royal brocades and head-to-toe leather looks.
Not only are they slimming, but they’re also perfect canvases with which to work a holiday number that is both pretty and trendy. In picking a great look for your New Year event (or events!) remember that you probably already have the base outfit in your closet — which means it’s all about switching up the look with the right accessories.
Remember your favorite little black dress from the company holiday party that you paired with some kitten heels and a lazy hairdo? No shame reprising it for the New Year with some contrasting accessories — and the bigger, the better.
The Earrings
Earrings are the best way to glam up any outfit with minimal fuss, not least because they help to frame your face instantly. Pressed for time on hairstyling? Pull it back into a high ponytail and put on these whimsical and classy Sapphire Radiant Drops that add enough glam without overpowering your outfit. Or, if you’re looking for something with a statement, you can’t go wrong with the Foxy Luxe-Rosegold Chandelier earrings.
The Necklace
If you don’t have pierced ears, a great statement necklace will do the trick with equal panache. To channel the rich opulence as seen on the fall runways of Balmain, Dries Van Noten and Marni, try the Snowflake Wonder Necklace. Channel your inner Marie Antoinette and pick pieces with rich jewel tones — think feminine with a touch of fierceness. Pair it with the season’s hottest peplum dresses and off you go!
The Purse
I find a night of cocktail-ing and networking is never complete without this Embellished Window Pane Clutch, which is just the right mix of rockstar glam and urban cool, and always draws “oohs” and “aahs” of admiration when I pull business cards out of it.
If you like to keep things more classic, a good reliable tote to take you from the bar (and later, the boardroom) is the Gemma Bowling Bag. It’s a great alternative and neutral color for a tote instead of a black handbag, especially if you’re into wearing grey, navy or black. What better way to kick off the New Year than with some form and function packaged in a structured classic shape with touches of glam at a great Foxy Steal of a price? Not only will it carry everything you need to ring in 2013, it’s also perfect for work, as it fits documents, a Nook or iPad — and even an extra pair of heels, if you need to commute in flats!
